True to is name as the ‘heart’ of The Three Valleys; Méribel is centrally placed in Europe’s most well-renowned ski area. Largely formed as a collection of picturesque hamlets, Méribel’s charismatic charm and atmosphere will be the first thing that strikes you, and of course the fantastic skiing and snowboarding on offer.

Skiing in Méribel

Meribel’s fantastic central placement in The Three Valleys makes exploring the ski area very simple and convenient, leaving guests spoilt for choice on where to start their adventures. Three Valleys visitors will be able to enjoy the huge variety of terrain on offer with over 600km of piste at their fingertips.

Meribel Chalets in Snow

Méribel has an eclectic range of skiing on offer, including nursery slopes for beginners and plenty of ski schools to choose from. There are over 100 red runs in the valley and many lifts in the Méribel ski resort itself, making this a haven for intermediate skiers and snowboards, they could spend the entire week on new terrain if they wished to.
Several Olympic events were held in resort back in 1992, meaning you can try out the Women’s Down Hill course if you are feeling brave, perhaps more for the advanced skier in your group. In addition to this, the off-piste is a haven for freeriders wanting to explore or those chasing powder days (although a guide is of course always recommended for your own safety) advanced skiers will no doubt wish to tackle some of the resorts black runs (there are over 30!) including the infamous ‘Le Bosses’.

Méribel has a couple of terrain parks, ‘Le Plattieres’, which is being managed by DC snowboarding and has a half-pipe, often used for freestyle events and competitions, and the ‘Elements’ park which is slightly more tailored to the intermediate crowd with a great range of boxes, jumps, rails and kickers.

Snow cover is seldom a problem in Méribel and although the village bases may be a different story, most terrain is sat relatively high. The resorts also have a great snowmaking system with hundreds of snow cannons in the area leaving you free to relax and enjoy the skiing.

More Information about Méribel

Méribel has grown significantly in the last ten years, now stretching nearly 5km up and across the valley itself, so it is certainly worth knowing where about you are staying in relation to general amenities and lifts. Méribel is split across 3 main village areas, each with its own different appeal. The town itself was founded by a British man back in 1936, although plans were halted by the outbreak of war, he eventually achieved his dream of a ski resort and ever since it has been a haven for many British visitors as well as international guests now its reputation has gone further upmarket.

The original village itself, commonly referred to as Les Allues, is where you’ll find gorgeous traditional style chalets, picture perfect when dusted with snow. Onwards up the valley is Méribel or ‘Méribel Centre’ which continues this style and also home to much of the areas shopping and nightlife.
And finally higher up the valley, Meribel – Mottaret, at 1750m making access to the ski area even more easy, visitors can take the Plattières gondola and reach 2,700m in just under 10 minutes. Although you will find all three main areas are extremely well connected to the piste since recent lift investments, ensuring these pretty resorts are in prime position to access the Three Valleys ski area.

Méribel is well known for its lively nightlife – which is reflected in the number of bars and restaurants on offer. Of course the on-piste Après ski is also known all over the world with one of the famous ‘Folie Douce’ locations situated in Méribel, however Méribel has its own legendary après ski ‘The Rond Point’ where famous bands often frequent the line up. Heading into town ‘Dicks Tea Bar’ and ‘the Loft’ is where local and tourists line up to take in the après – be ready to party in this energetic resort.
