Skiing in La Tania
First of all a little know fact to start our guide to La Tania – the resort was built in 1992 for the Albertville Winter Olympics. The centre of the town is traffic free and the wooden clad buildings blend in nicely to the forested surroundings, making this ‘purpose-built’ resort one above the rest. Many of the apartments and chalets are ski in ski out all season long, sometimes supplemented with snow cannons when necessary. With a handy layout lending itself to families and groups wanting the ultimate in convenience.
In addition to the advantageous positing in the Three Valleys, the resort offers excellent value for money versus its neighbors with a range of good value accommodation options and many bars and restaurants.
Skiing in the La Tania sector of the region offers a fabulous mix of beginner areas, surrounded with beautiful sweeping tree-lined pistes.
A mix of blue runs all meeting in the middle above Courchevel-Moriond 1650 and running down into La Tania prove popular with most.
The resort is relativity small and less known than the other big names in the ski area – but don’t let that put you off, it means lift queue’s in peak times are minimal, giving you a lot more room to breathe and a lot less waiting around.
To reach the Three Valleys ski area is simple with just 2 links used. Taking the gondola from La Tania with the mid-altitude Praz-Juget plateau, from here its one button lift to Courchevel 1850 and a chairlift up to Méribel. Mogul fields, couloirs, and blacks are at the mercy of the advanced skiers in the Three Valley sectors. Furthermore there are some equally gripping red runs with the highest run in entire Three Valleys, in Orelle. Starting at 3,230m, the red run Coraia boasts fantastic views of the surrounding peaks and a nice long descent into the valley.
Entertaining your group is simple even off the piste, holidaymakers can enjoy bowling, a leisure center or the cinema. For those wanting to explore the night-life or Après ski, we would advise heading to Courchevel for the wilder part vibe, just short taxi away in any case. There are still some good value bars at the foot of the pistes as well as a handful of Savoyard style restaurants serving fondues, meat platters and pizza galore.
